Concept:

This painting is an abstract rendition of the beautiful verses of Surah Ad-Duha by Nadia Zeeshan and the calligraphy reads:

By the forenoon (after sun-rise); And by the night when it is still (or darkens); Your Lord (O Muhammad ) has neither forsaken you nor hated you. And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world).

Quran (Ad-Duha- 93:1-4)

The story behind the verses is that for a period of time, Prophet Muhammad did not receive revelation from God. This distressed him and made him feel that perhaps God had forgotten him and did not consider him worthy. This Surah broke that silence and reassured Muhammad that his Lord had not forgotten him now and not before when he was an orphan. It further seeks to reassure him to look for the light within the darkness, not just physically, but also metaphorically. Silence is the language of God and it is only in the depths of this silence can his voice be heard.

The colors and strokes in the painting are somewhere between light and dark,  earthly and heavenly, hope and despair and silence and reassurance. A reminder that it is darkest before dawn and no matter how dire our circumstances are, they are temporary, as is everything in this world. The only perpetuity is in afterlife.
