Ever since this pandemic started, I’ve spent countless hours holed up in my studio studying and painting various versions of the Kaaba. You see, the Kaaba to me is a symbol of redemption, salvation or nirvana .Which is why I paint it in all its glory depicting it as a beacon of light watching over us all. The lesson I’ve chosen to take away from this pandemic is that this wasn’t just a health crisis, but also a crisis of faith . For this reason, while painting my "Introspection" piece, my heart got the solitude reciting these verses during the pandemic lockdown:

 

“Guide us to the straight path. The Path of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray.”

Sura Fatiha  


These verses are a prayer to do better and for God to show us the right path again amidst all this madness. If we knew what was coming, would we do better?
